NOT less than five million farmers in Nigeria will receive assistance from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), to boost their farming business.
Making this known was the team leader of the Feed the Future Nigeria Agricultural Policy, Dr Osagie Aimiuwu, during a meeting with stakeholders which was held at the National Agricultural Extension Research and Liasons Services (NAERLS) in Zaria, Kaduna State.
Aiumiuwu noted that the programme began in Nigeria three years ago covering seven states and currently extended to other states where insurgency had uprooted farming communities to increase farmers’ yield through the use of modern technologies.
He further said that the meeting reviewed past activities of the project over the years and set a landmark for the next two years.
Aiumuwu admonished non governmental organisations (NGOs) in the country to hold government accountable in the formulation and implementation of policies targeted at ensuring the safety and betterment of farmers.
