IN order to meet up with international best practices, the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has launched a capacity building scheme to improve farmers’ parctices in pork production.
The Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mohammed Bello, brought made this known during a two-day capacity building workshop for pig farmers in Asaba, Delta state.
Bello, highlighted the various opportunities in pig farming to be enjoyed by farmers in the country.
According to him, the training is one of the many efforts by the FG to improve protein consumption in the country by utilizing the 38 percent pork market internationally.
He said the aim of the workshop is to improve the standard and practices among pig farmers so as to meet up with the international market.Bello said, “According to Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), 38 percent of meat protein consumed across the world is pork; so this workshop is apt to enable farmers process the pork to international market standard.”
