The Northeast Commodity Association (NECAS), in collaboration with Yobe State government, has distributed 100 tractors to farmers to boost their productivity and income.
The association is accredited by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) under the Anchor Borrowers’ scheme in the region.
Inaugurating the distribution at the Damaturu Stadium, Governor Mai Mala Buni said “No nation could be secure without food security.”
He added that the state government had put in place necessary things with support from other partners to improve food production in the state.
“I commend the association for the delivery of 100 tractors for distribution to our farmers as the rainy season sets in to ensure food sufficiency,” he said.
The state chairman of association, Nuhu Hassan, disclosed that the tractors would only be distributed to registered farmers in groups on loan to cultivate their farmland.
He said 11,000 rice farmers had benefited from the association’s farm implements distribution, with the exception of Fika council, which is yet to register with NECAS.
