Report stemming from the Katsina tomato market indicates that the price of tomatoes has dropped by 75 percent, due to a glut in stock level of the commodity.
It was revealed that the drop in price was as a result of a tomato glut arising from high supply of the commodity by farmers, from Katsina and neighbouring states.
According to newsmen who monitored the development at the market, a big basket of tomatoes, which sold for N10,000 in May, now sells for N2,500.
Reacting to the development, Vice Chairman of Katsina Vegetable Sellers Association, Alhaji Sada Ahmed, when quizzed by newsmen, said that the commodity was supplied in large quantities by farmers, hence the crash in price.
He noted that aside from the quantity being produced in Katsina, farmers from neighbouring states like Kano, Jigawa, and Zamfara were also supplying the commodity to the market.
