Quelea Invasion: FG begins fumigation in Jigawa

Determined to halt the invasion of Quelea birds in Jigawa State, the Federal Government in collaboration with the State Government has kicked off the aerial spray in affected areas.

While addressing Newsmen in Hadejia today, Special Assistant to the Governor on Communities Inclusiveness, Hamza Mohammed highlighted the areas that would benefit from the exercise to include Taura, Ringim, Auyo, Guri, Kirikasamma, Kaugama, Jahun and Miga Local Government Areas of the state.

Muhammed who stated that the Governor of Jigawa State, Mohammad Badaru approved the exercise following the invasion of quelea birds on the farms, disclosed that the aerial spray commence on October 11th.

Similarly, while speaking on the invasion of typha grass on farmlands in the state, he revealed that the state Government had engaged youths who had cleared over 60km manually in Guri.

According to him, “This ongoing project is also aimed at removing typha grass from Guri up to Nguru, our border with Yobe”

Muhammed added that the typha grass poses a serious problem by blocking waterways and harboring dangerous reptiles.
