Delegates from the Nigerian Institute of Animal Science (NIAS) paid a courtesy visit to the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Alhaji Mohammad Sabo Nanono, to discuss the development of the institute.
Led by its Registrar, Professor Eustace Iyayi, the delegates briefed Minister Nanono on the roles and mandates of the institute, established by Act 26 of 2007 as Amended 2015 for the regulation of all issues on Animal Husbandry in Nigeria.
Speaking at the visit, Prof. Iyayi said that the institute has improved in its practice regulation of the feed industry, breeder farms, hatchery, and day-old chicks sectors.
According to him, the institute would build a strong partnership with the Ministry to modernize livestock rearing and unlock the huge potential in the N30 trillion livestock industry.
Prof. Iyayi noted that the institute, for professionalism in dispensing its functions, maintains a list of all registered Animal Scientists who practice across Nigeria.
He further stated that by law, only registered Animal Scientists could head Animal Science/Animal Husbandry Department in Institutions, Ministries and Agencies.
