The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), Business Incubation Platform (BIP) unit, GoSeed is set to launch the first e-commerce website for breeder and foundation seed in Nigeria on November 4.

According to the IITA GoSeed, ” with our e-commerce solution, we hope to contribute to removing the challenge of accessing quality-improved seeds no matter the location of our customers across Africa! Orders can now be made online, and seed companies have the option to pick-up their seeds or have it delivered at a location of their choice.”

“To help achieve this, it is launching the first e-commerce website in Nigeria where breeder and foundation seeds of the best-improved varieties can now be ordered online at www.iitagoseed.com. Locations of the seed fields can also be accessible on the GoSeed Tracker via the website.” The statement added

GoSeed is charged with the production and marketing of quality breeder and foundation seeds and planting materials of IITA mandate crops to private seed companies for production, distribution, and sale of quality certified seeds/planting materials to farmers.

It is involved with the awareness and use of quality certified seeds of improved IITA cowpea varieties that are expected to improve farmers’ yields, livelihoods, and food and income security.

The IITA GoSeed is also responsible for the commercial promotion of early generation seeds of improved crop varieties generated by IITA and other CGIAR Centres across the globe. The mandate crops include bananas and plantain, cassava, cowpea, maize, rice, soybean, and yam.
