Envoy pledges UK government’s determination to partner Imo on agriculture, infrastructure

The United Kingdom (UK) government has pledged support for the Imo State Government to grow its agricultural sub -sector. The UK government is also exploring ways to intervene in the state’s infrastructure.

British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Catriona Laing, who made the disclosure during a dialogue with some Civil Society Organisations and media representatives, in Owerri, said its government is interested in Imo as a vibrant state that requires collaboration to realise its opportunities.

Her words: “Agriculture is the mainstay of the economy. It is important to us. We will see what we can do to support this state. We are here to get better understanding of the state; the challenges and opportunities.

“It is a very important part of this country. I want to understand where the opportunities, problems are and what the UK government can do to address these opportunities.”

The High Commissioner also interacted with the representatives on other areas such as political economy, critical infrastructure and other issues of human interest of the Southeast geo-political zones.
