An agricultural technology NGO, Sasakawa Africa Association has said it will ease the mode of conducting agribusinesses for rural farmers, by providing timely information, technology and extension services through its e-extension platform.
Board Chairman of the group, Professor Ruth Oniango who made the vow in Abuja, described technology as the only way in which youths can be lured into agriculture.
In her remarks, the association would entreat farmers to use mobile phones to conduct their businesses within the agricultural sector.
She added that apart from tilling the land, other opportunities exist in marketing including the creation of applications to link farmers to markets, both far and wide.
Oniango also stated that there were other opportunities in agriculture and applauded the President Buhari administration for its commitment towards reviving agriculture.
On his part, Vice President of the Board, Dr. Amit Roy, said that the NGO, through its e-extension will pass information simultaneously to farmers and extension agents for decision making.
“We are going to provide the tools for them to be successful, we are going to bring the technology, timely information because most farmers have cell phones.
“This is going to be an important element in our intervention because ultimately, agriculture is a business, farmers are in it because they want to make money and livelihood.
“We are going to help them bring in new technologies, new knowledge and new tools for them to succeed,” Roy said.
