In a bid to curb illegal logging activities in the State, Governor of Cross River State; Ben Ayade, on Monday, approved the dissolution of the state’s anti-deforestation task force.
According to the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity; Mr. Christian Ita, the Governor following this move has approved the appointment of an interim task force, spearheaded by Dr. Odey Oyama, a chieftain of the All Progressive Congress (APC) to ensure transparency and compliance, as well as thorough implementation of the government’s anti-deforestation policy.
“The new interim task-force has Dr. Odey Oyama as chairman with the 18 Heads of Local Government Administration (HOLGA) as members.
“It should be noted that any HOLGA that allows illegally logged woods to pass through his or her local government area, faces termination from the local government service”, he noted.
