F2FDialogue: Agro-industrialisation is the way out of unemployment – Prof. Oyelaran-Oyeyinka

Agro-industrialization has been described as the headway to job creation, according to Professor Oyebanji Oyelaran-Oyeyinka, the Special Adviser to the President of Africa Development Bank on Industrialisation.

Prof. Oyelaran-Oyeyinka made this disclosure in his presentation themed “Industrialization: Key to Quantum Growth in Agricultural Productivity”, at the ongoing Farm2Fork Dialogue.

According to him, successful agricultural transformations are business-led and the AfDB is on its stride to transforming Africa’s agriculture into a competitive and inclusive agribusiness sector that creates wealth and improves livelihoods.

While noting that Nigeria needs to become an exporting hub, he said that when Nigeria imports from another country, it sends employment to the country where it imports from.

The Don emphasized that with the closure of Nigeria’s land borders, by “2025, there’ll be zero import of rice”

Prof. Oyelaran-Oyeyinka further pointed out that the basic requirements for a modern revolution of agriculture are knowledge, power, innovation and the internet.
