Agriculture is the backbone of Nigeria’s economic development and should be given rapt financial attention to deter food importation and boost the country’s GDP.
This statement was made in Abuja by the National Coordinator of the Noble Youths Mass Support Association (NYMSA), Mr. Godwin Onmonya who appealed to the Federal Government to invest more in the agriculture sector to boost food production in the country.
According to him, “Agriculture is the main source of livelihood for many people because it contributes to foreign exchange, food production, and employment opportunities among others.
He called on the government to adequately fund the agricultural sector in order to boost food production and conserve the foreign exchange being spent on importation of foods.
Among other things, he pleaded with the government at all levels to assist farmers with agricultural inputs and the necessary supports needed to elevate agriculture.
Onmonya also pledged the commitment of the group towards ensuring food security in Nigeria. “We believe that young people have a great role to play in ensuring food security in Nigeria”.
He stated that the group is also focused on creating empowerment for youths across the country, while it is also keen on serving humanity.
The Coordinator went on to advise youths in the country to take agriculture as a serious business and avoid any form of social vices.
