Okun Rice: Ogun State Govt. to partner with firm on rice production

Keen on advancing its rice revolution drive, the Government of Ogun state is set to partner with Hyst Global Ltd, producers of Okun Rice, to embark on the mass production of rice across the state.

AgroNigeria understands that the partnership will see to the large scale production of rice in Ogun, with the firm looking to produce over 100metric tons per day.

In a meeting with top executives from Hyst Global Ltd, Ogun State Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Adeola Odedina welcomed the investment from the firm, stressing the need to build the capacity of rice farmers and pave way for linkage support.

As part of the plan, the Ogun state government will open up access to more arable lands for rice farmers across the state, while Okun Rice will offer milling and off-taking services to bolster the state’s food security motive.

The state government will also provide financial support to rice farmers to thrive the initiative and achieve its aim of classing Ogun as one of the biggest rice-producing states in Nigeria.

Present at the meeting in Abeokuta was the Hon. Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Adeola Odedina; Permanent Secretary, Dr. Sorunke Dotun; Special Adviser to the Governor on Food Security, Dr. Angel Adelaja and a Director from the state’s ministry of agriculture; as well as the management of Hyst Global Ltd.
