A former governor of Adamawa State, Admiral Murtala Nyako (retd), has urged the Federal Government to immediately embrace technology for the nation’s agricultural development and food security. He gave the advice in Abuja during a special meeting of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) and the inauguration of a 13-man National Working Committee (NWC), also known as the National Caretaker Committee of the AFAN. The NWC is to oversee the affairs of the association, as well as conduct a regular national conference to elect a new national executive committee of the association within two years. Nyako, who is the chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the AFAN, said Nigeria could attain a well-developed agricultural sector that could be better than oil if government could wholly embrace technology.

“There is also the need for the farmers to work with politicians so that the implementation of the policies to develop the agricultural sector can be implemented. We also need to buy into research and development to make the sector better in record time,” Nyako said. Speaking earlier, the chairman of the electoral committee, Comrade Ajibola Olawale Tajudeen, and secretary, Abdulrasheed Ahmad Imam, said the outcome of a meeting of all the newly elected 36 states and the chairman of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) resolved that the spirit of the constitution of the AFAN on the election and tenure of national executive members should be upheld.
