Bayelsa State Government has pledged to commence the distribution of loans to farmers in the state, irrespective of their political inclination.
State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, revealed that the loans will be distributed via the Central Bank of Nigeria agricultural loan facility, as he expressed confidence in the scheme’s objective to promote agricultural activities in the state.
In a press statement released by Acting Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Daniel Alabrah, the Governor vowed to ensure that the loan distribution remains apolitical.
He said that strict measures are being put in place to ensure that only farmers benefit from the scheme.
According to Diri, the state verification of farmers would be undertaken by the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources.
He also said that loans will not be made available to politicians, with the exception of those who are farm owners.
Diri said, “Our government will like to support businesses. We will provide opportunities for wealth and job creation for our people, particularly our women and youth through skill acquisition and loans.
“For instance, we have been moving for the CBN agriculture loan. Very soon, it will come to us. I’m sure by next week, we will have it.
“Let me make it clear that the money is for farmers. So I am going to give it to farmers alone. The only way you can benefit is for you to own a farm. I am loyal will not qualify you for that loan.”
