Contributing its quota to the fight against the novel Corona Virus (COVID-19), the Oyo State Chapter of the Poultry Association of Nigeria (PAN), last week, donated N6.5 million worth of food palliatives and medical items to the state government.
The move, according to the association, was part of its efforts in helping the government obliterate the spread of COVID-19 and aid residents in cushioning the effect of the lockdown in the state.
PAN in this generous act, donated One automatic ICU bed, Three manual ICU beds, 3,000 of 100ml sanitizers, Ten 500ml sanitizers, Twelve 20 litres of disinfectants, One tonne of broiler chicken meats and 1,000 crates of eggs, at the state government’s secretariat in Ibadan.
Speaking while handing over the items, State Chairman of PAN, Mr. Agboola Gbemisoye who hailed the government and all medical personnel, said that the association identified the need to join forces with the government in fighting the disease.
According to him, the poultry products donated were targeted at boosting the immune system of residents, as it was a vital component in preventing COVID-19.
Gbemisoye said, “It has been our custom as a partner in progress to support the state, and we identify with Governor Seyi Makinde led administration at this trying time, and believe our support will add to government’s efforts in providing for the people”
The Chairman further advised those who were been isolated, as well as the general public, to consume eggs daily regardless of their gender or age, as eggs were tantamount to healthy living.
State Commissioner for Agriculture, Hon. Muyiwa Ojekunle received the food items on behalf of the government, while the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Bashir Bello, was on ground to welcome the medical supplies.
Representing Governor Makinde, Executive Adviser to the governor on Agribusiness, Dr. Debo Akande praised the efforts of PAN in the state in helping to eradicate COVID-19, assuring that the items would be distributed judiciously.
On his part, State General Secretary of PAN, Dr. Olugbenga Ogunwole, added that the move by the group was part of its social responsibility in alleviating the sufferings of Oyo residents and also back the government against the pandemic.
State government officials such as the Commissioner for Agriculture and Health, Executive members of the state PAN, and the media, were all on ground to witness the gesture by the association.
Oyo state currently has eleven confirmed cases of COVID-19, and the donation by PAN is expected to go a long way in assisting the government in its fight against the scourge.
