The All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Niger Chapter, has issued a warning to its members to desist from purchasing adulterated fertilisers.
The warning follows rumour of sale of adulterated fertilisers by some persons in the state.
Speaking to journalists in Minna, the Niger State Chairman of AFAN, Alhaji Shehu Galadima, confirmed the circulation rumours to be true, adding that the association had verified it.
Galadima said that it was, therefore, necessary to caution farmers in the state against buying such fertilisers.
The chairman said, “It is no longer a rumour that some evil merchants are adulterating fertilisers in Niger state. There is a need to alert our members to be at alert, and not to purchase such fertilisers in the markets.
“It is true: AFAN is aware, and we even complained to the state Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. We have alerted our farmers on the issue, and we are all monitoring.”
Galadima also called on farmers to report to the nearest security agency any person found selling them.
