Following the destruction of farmlands occasioned by the Kebbi flood, the Federal Government has directed the Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria (RIFAN) to mobilise one million farmers to fast-track rice production, nationwide.
Kebbi farmers had earlier lamented the loss of crops, including rice, as their farms, were hit by a ravaging flood, AgroNigeria reported.
The National President of RIFAN, Alhaji Aminu Goronyo, assured the victims of the government’s support, as he visited the affected farmlands.
He noted that the mobilisation of the rice farmers would serve as support to the state as well as farmers across the nation.
The farmers, he said, would be capable of producing 5 million metric tons of rice in this year’s dry season farming.
Goronyo noted that the support would be coming through the Central Bank of Nigeria(CBN), while assuring the affected farmers that the CBN officials would arrive in the state, for quick assessment and support.
“The CBN governor had directed RIFAN to mobilise 1 million farmers that can quickly produce five million metric tonnes during the dry farming season commencing in November 2020, for support,” he said.
State Governor, Abubakar Atiku Bagudu however assured the victims of the Federal Government’s Support.
According to him, the Federal Government would put in enough measures to tackle the problem.
