Ogun State Government is set to implement a backward integration project to boost the capacity of local dairy producers and upscale milk production in the state.
The government will partner with foremost dairy production company; Fan Milk Plc, to take-off the project, a recent statement revealed.
According to the release by the firm on Wednesday, the project will contribute to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN)’s dairy improvement programme, and also strengthen food security.
Chairman of the company’s board, Mr. Olayinka Akinkugbe, disclosed that the firm decided to partner with the state after a careful assessment of the government’s agricultural strides.
Ogun State, he added, was keen on ensuring investments in the entire agricultural value chain, especially the dairy sector.
On his part, the company’s Managing Director, Mr. Ferdinand Mouko stated that the partnership was in line with its business development strategy.
The project will accelerate dairy development in the state, through a partnership with local dairy farmers, he added.
He said, “Our objective is to ensure that we partner with local dairy farmers in communities within Ogun State to accelerate the development and expansion of the local dairy market while also creating the social and economic impact of improving the livelihood of the ecosystem within which we operate.”
AgroNigeria also gathered that the company would establish a pilot dairy farm within the Odeda Farm Institute in Ogun State.
A training institute for local dairy farmers would also be established to build farmers’ capacity.
