Buhari Assures Nigerians of Agric Reforms

President Muhammadu Buhari has said that Nigerian farmers will continue to reap the benefits of his administration’s reforms as he accords the highest priority to agriculture.

Buhari, who also described agriculture as Nigeria’s largest employer of labour and engine of growth, added that he would continue to take steps to enhance output and productivity.

He added that he would achieve these by ensuring the availability of cheap agricultural credits, farm inputs, fertiliser and the introduction of latest technologies, among others.

The President stated these in a recent meeting with the Katsina State Elders’ Forum at the State House in Abuja.

Buhari pointed out that his choice of selecting practicing farmers as Ministers of Agriculture and Rural Development was a strong reflection of his strong wish to protect the interest of farmers and attain national food self-sufficiency.

Former Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Chief Audu Ogbe, and his incumbent counterpart, Alhaji Sabo Nanono, are practicing farmers.

During the meeting, Buhari also assured the Katsina Elders of his readiness to expand existing irrigation facilities such as the Zobe and Sabke Dams in the state.
