The Governor of Kebbi State, Atiku Bagudu, has commended youths in the state for diligently engaging in its current agricultural initiative to massively produce cassava in the state.
Bagudu made this observation during a recent visit to a cassava farm at Maiyama Local Government Area of the state.
The Cassava farm, which stretches over 10,000 hectares, is one of the many farms where cassava are being produced under a robust partnership between the Kebbi State Government and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
Speaking during the visit, Bagudu noted that youth involvement would aid the efforts of the state government as well as that of the Federal Government to bolster food production.
He further noted that the step would also contribute to making Nigeria self-sufficient in food production, improve the personal life of the citizenry and boost the Kebbi State economy.
“This is a happy development and it cannot come at a better time than now when we are strenuously making efforts to uplift the living standard of the people of the state,” he said.
The governor also underscored the importance of the cassava and other food crops programmes towards adding significant value to the National Food Security Programme.
He commended the policy thrust of President Muhammdu Buhari which he described as a motivating factor. He also lauded the CBN for its support for the country’s efforts towards boosting food production in the country.
Bagudu, however, assured of his administration’s continued commitment to expanding various programmes for food production,
He added that he would also see to the provision of cassava and rice seedlings that require little rainfall, inputs and other related implements to farm.
