Stakeholders Move to Support 200,000 Farmers on Regenerative Agriculture

No fewer than 200,000 farmers will be supported on a regenerative agricultural programme powered by Dantata Foods and Allied Products Company Limited.

The agri-firm is collaborating with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), RegenFARM Limited, the Foreign and Commonwealth Development Office of the British Government to pilot the project in 10 states; Kano, Cross River, Jigawa, Kaduna, Bauchi, Katsina, Kebbi, Benue, Niger and Plateau states.

“Dantata Foods have aggregated and monitored farmers in the aspect of livestock and animal husbandry”, the CEO of Dantata Alh. Tajuddeen Aminu Dantata noted in a statement made available to newsmen recently.

“With all these achievements, the Company wants to build a strong relationship with the Central Bank of Nigeria to stand out as a reliable implementing partner for farmers’ aggregation and Agro-allied development projects”.

He further stated that the collaboration has already created access to markets in European countries for the organic commodities produced under the Regenerative Agriculture practices.

The partnership is also expected to increase food production, boost export opportunities of the country’s agricultural commodities.

Aside from being part of the solution to climate change, regenerative agriculture methods have benefits for ‘human health, animal welfare, the environment, and farm profitability’, according to emerging studies.

General Manager, Corporate Services, Dantata Foods and Allied Products Company Limited, Sanusi Bature in the release stressed that the initiative was designed to help with the management of various food value chains and offering complete traceability from farmers to final consumers.

On his part, Managing Director, RegenFARM Limited Mr. Jaso Haywarda said that the initiative would provide an ample opportunity for Nigeria’s Agro-processing industry as it will increase smallholder farmer out-growers productivity and also help to mitigate climate change.

The use of Regenerative Agriculture inherently enhances biodiversity and water storage capacity, and therefore RegenFARM Platform offers a cross-over to other complementary industries and sectors, he noted.
