The Lagos State chapter of the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) has commenced its skill acquisition training tagged Sustainable Agriculture Development Training Scheme (SADTS) to boost job creation for youths in the state.
SADTS, which began on Tuesday with over 100 youths in attendance is part of the Federal Government’s policy to curb the rising youth unemployment in the country. It also serves as an avenue for wealth creation and nation building.
Acting Director General of NDE, Mallam Nuhu Fikpo during the flag-off ceremony, explained that SADTS was a programme under the rural employment for the unemployed and interested retirees to reduce expectations on the few white collar jobs available in the country.
Fikpo who was represented by the Lagos State Coordinator, Mrs Serena Edward stressed on the importance of agricultural development for economic diversification, noting that SADTS would expose participants to modern farming techniques.
Representative of the Director, Rural Employment Programme (REP) and NDE HQ, Miss Beatrice Orunyehu, on her part, said NDE was poised to train and equip farmers on the new techniques for crop farming and preservation through its master trainers
Orunyehu, however, appreciated the efforts of the trainers for their strong collaboration with NDE in ensuring that unemployment is reduced to the barest minimum through farming.
